Hutchinson County Crisis Center, Inc (HC3) was formed in April 1995 when Tralee Crisis Center decided they needed to close their outreach office in Borger. Citizens of Hutchinson saw that there was a desperate need for the shelter and the services to continue to be available to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence in their county, and negotiated an agreement with Tralee to purchase the existing facility. This agency was funded initially by community donations from its first (annual) telethon, which raised almost $25,000. Today, with a budget over $300,000, the agency continues to grow, annually increasing the client base, services provided and services available. With HC3’s strong board and community support, the Agency will continue to expand, reaching those victims that so badly need the services provided.
HC3 is the only shelter of any kind in Hutchinson County.
Shelter resident client – The average recipient of shelter services would receive transportation services necessary to meet their needs and goals. Unless shelter is full, clients are provided a private room for themselves and their children. All shelter residents are provided any necessary clothing items, meals, school supplies for children, baby items and hygiene products. Clients would be assisted in filling out necessary paperwork for crime victim’s compensation, housing, medical needs, job search, legal assistance, protective orders and any other forms necessary. While in the shelter clients can access peer counseling 24 hours a day. Clients receive parenting and life skills as part of the shelter services. If the client and/or children are in the shelter during holiday time the appropriate food and gifts are provided. Arrangements are made with local school officials to ensure safety while attending school and during transportation to and from school.
